Yesterday I had the opportunity to record a PSA (public service announcement) at WLRH radio station. It’s located on the beautiful campus of the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
I’ve done radio interviews before, but never did a PSA – til now! I love being able to cross off “firsts”! 😉
Here are a few tips I recommend to record a PSA successfully:
1. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE the script in advance to get the timing down. You’d be surprised how fast 27 seconds can go by when you have a paragraph to say! I practiced repeatedly, using my phone’s stopwatch app.
2. Since you only have but so much time, think about which words need to be emphasized more than others.
3. Smile! Now this was a “happy” PSA, so smiling while recording can help you sound more upbeat. Like they teach customer service reps, the audience will be able to “hear” the smile in your voice!
Have you done a PSA before? What else would you add?

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
